Usually you need to download the whole website, and you use additional application like httrack in windows. But there will be a question how to do it in Linux? What application do I need to do this. But that question will be answered by a simple solution that missed by many people.

Yes, we will do it just by command line. And the command that we need is a popular command that many people have known. The command is wget. Now, how wget will download whole website? Here it is the command that you need :

$ wget -r --level=0 -convert-links --page-requisites --no-parent

The wget option explanation :
-r / --recursive                   Do recursive
-l / --level=                  Use 0 for infinite depth level or use number greater than 0 for limited depth.
-k / --convert-links            Modify links inside downloaded files to point to local files.
-p / --page-requisites         Get all images, css, js files which make up the web page.
-np / --no-parent               Don't download parent directory contents.

That's the command that you need to download whole website like httrack. Very simple, isn't it?

Linux is very interesting Operating System. One of thing that make it interesting is its command line, that can do so many things for you. Many people love this Linux command line.

As for twitter user, off course we are frequently update our status. And I found it possible to update our status via command line. You just have curl installed on your Linux computer.
Here is the command to update your twitter status :

$ curl -u "username:password" -d "status=your update status" http://www.twitter.com/statuses/update.xml

Replace "your status update" with your status that you wanna be written on your status. Thats it, and your status will be updated. If you wanna make it more simple, that you need to write the command above into a bash script.

Use apt-get Through Proxy That Requires Username And Password On Ubuntu Linux

apt-get automatically work on direct internet connectin or transparent proxy. But if your internet connection using proxy (not transparent proxy), you will need to setting the apt-get configuration file to make apt-get to work.

Open apt.conf file and add this line :

Acquire::http::Proxy "http://username:password@proxyserver:port";

For example :

$ sudo vi /etc/apt/apt.conf

Add the line (proxy):

Acquire::http::Proxy "http://john:rambo@10.10.10.10:1010";

Save the file and you're done. Now you can use apt-get through that proxy.

Another way to do it is via command line :

$ sudo export http_proxy=http://username:password@proxyserver:port

Note : Setting from gnome network proxy will not work (work on your all internet application, but not apt-get), only work on proxy that doesn't need username and password. This is because gnome network proxy setting will only put proxy server and its port on apt.conf file, but username and password is not. Last time I see this on Karmic Koala.

Sometimes on your work with PHP you need to connect to 2 or more database. In example, you want to take data on table from database A and process the data. Then you want to insert or update the processed data into database B. Here I will show you how to connect to 2 database and run query from it.

This is the code :

$db1 = mysql_connect($host1, $username1, $password1);
$db2 = mysql_connect($host2, $username2, $password2, true);

Don't ever forget with the fourth parameter on mysql_connect(the true option), otherwise this cannot work.

mysql_select_db('database1', $db1);
mysql_select_db('database2', $db2);

To make a query on database 1, do :

query1 = mysql_query('select * from tablename', $db1);

and for database 2 :

query2 = mysql_query('select * from tablename', $db2);

To connect to more than 2 database, you just need to add more connection. It may named as $db3, $db4, $db5 and so on.

Save 20% of Your Bandwidth from Windows

Do you know that if we use windows we cannot use all of our bandwidth? Windows always use 20% of our bandwidth for its updates or anything else. To make you able to use all the bandwidth you need to do two things.

First, you need to turn off windows automatic updates. You can go to Control Panel -- Security Center, and then switch off the Automatic Updates.

Secondly, you need to release 20% of your bandwidth that used by windows. You can do this by :
1. Click Start -- Run (windows key + R), and type gpedit.msc and press enter.
2. Go to Administrative Templates -- Network -- QoS Packet Scheduler -- Limit Reservable bandwidth.
3. Set it to enabled, and set the bandwidth limit to 0.
4. Press Apply and OK.

Thats it, since the bandwidth has been set to 0 for windows, now you can get 100% of your bandwidth.

Install Stardict, Your Offline Linux Dictionary on Ubuntu 9.10

On Ubuntu 9.10 you find already installed dictionary, but to use the dictionary you need to go online. Without the internet connection you cannot use the dictionary. Then you need an offline dictionary so you can use have a dictionary even you are not online.

The dictionary that I will recommend to you is stardict. Here I will show you the steps to install it. First you need to install the stardict from the repository.

$ sudo apt-get install stardict

Then you need to install the language on your dictionary. Here, I install indonesian-english and english-indonesian. Download the dictionary and install it.

$ wget http://transact.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/stardict/stardict-quick_eng-ind-2.4.2.tar.bz2
$ wget http://transact.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/stardict/stardict-quick_ind-eng-2.4.2.tar.bz2

Split File in Linux With Rar From Command Line

You may want to compress a large file and split it using rar and you want to do it from command line. Then your command that you need is here.

For example, you want to split a file in 5 MB size. The command is :

$ rar a -v5120k file outfile

That's it, you're done here.

Install Madwifi for Atheros Card on Ubuntu 9.10

By default Ubuntu has its wireless driver installed. But sometimes you got your wireless not working after installed Ubuntu. Then you may need to install another driver like madwifi or using ndiswrapper. On this article I will show you how to install madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6 on Ubuntu 9.10.

First you need to need to get the madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6 on your computer. You can download it. After that, you need to extract madwifi. Sometimes you got an error while installing madwifi like this :

Checking requirements... ok.

That error happen because you install madwifi not in the right directory. You need to place the madwifi folder under /usr/src directory. And then go to madwifi folder that you just copied.

$ cd /usr/src/madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r4100-20090929/

then you can do the normal scenario, "make" and "make install" :

$ sudo make

$ sudo make install

Don't forget to do this to make the driver work :

$ sudo modprobe ath_pci

Then add ath_pci to /etc/modules

Go to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf
comment the ath_pci,
ath_pci --become-- # ath_pci

The last step to do is blacklisting ath5k.
Open /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and add this line :
blacklist ath5k

That's it. You may need to reboot your system to make it work.

On that email, you are ask to login to your Paypal account and click an accept button or link. The accept button or link just only show if your email on your Paypal is not confirmed yet. So you click the "Accept Payment" link on your Paypal account to confirm your email and receive the payment.

Make Transparent Proxy With Squid on Linux (Ubuntu 9.10)

To make a transparent proxy you need to redirect all port that you want to squid port. This article will guide you to make a transparent proxy server on Ubuntu 9.10. First thing you need to do are installing squid on your computer that will become a proxy server. You can install it with apt-get command, like this :

$ sudo apt-get install squid

Then you need to configure your squid. Open your squid file configuration :

$ sudo /etc/squid/squid.conf

Add this line on http_port tag (under “# Squid normally listens to port 3128") :

http_port 3128 transparent

And then make your own rules. In this example I will only use the minimal configuration. Add this line to define the network (LAN) and permit the network use the squid proxy :

acl src LAN 192.168.2.0/24
http_access allow LAN
icp_access allow LAN

Save the squid configuration file and restart the squid to make the changes take effect. You can restart squid with this command :

$ sudo service squid restart

That minimal configuration will make squid run, But not transparent yet. To make it transparent you need to configure your iptables. You need to make a iptables configuration file on your gateway, like this (assume your proxy server is on IP 192.168.2.1) :

$ sudo vi /etc/iptables.conf

then write this on that file :

*filter
:INPUT ACCEPT [4:212]
:FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0]

Make Your Own Socks 5 Proxy With SSH Tunnel

We know that socks 5 proxy is very good and anonymous. Now you can make your socks 5 proxy with the help of ssh. You can make it by tunneling connection through your remote computer on a network or internet with ssh.

You just need this command on terminal :

$ ssh -D port user@remote_computer

example :

$ ssh -D 1234 john@100.100.100.100

-D option here is for tunneling, and port is the port you are using to connect to your remote computer. I use port 1234 here on example.

To use this socks proxy, for example on a browser you need to fill the socks proxy address with "localhost" and port 1234, and choose socks 5 proxy.

Login Through SSH Without Password

Sometimes we need to login through ssh without password. SSH just need the client's public key to be copied on its directory. With this key, ssh recognize the client as a good client or authorized client, not bad client or intruder. To do this, first you need to generate a key.

Use this command to generate ssh key :

$ ssh-keygen -t dsa

you can let the passphrase empty.

Then copy your ssh public key to your remote computer. You can use this command :

$ scp ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub user@remote_computer:.ssh/authorized_keys

Its done, now you can login to your remote computer without being asked for a password.

Remote Shutdown and Remote Reboot on Linux (Ubuntu) with Just One SSH Command

Do you need to remotely shutdown or reboot a computer on your network? Do you want to do it with just one ssh command? The answer is here.

Type this command on your terminal :

$ ssh user@remote_computer sudo poweroff

example :

$ ssh john@192.168.1.100 sudo poweroff

That command will make your computer going to shutdown. To reboot you need this command :

$ ssh user@remote_computer sudo reboot

example :

$ ssh john@192.168.1.100 sudo reboot

That command will work nicely. But, you should notice that those two command will prompt you a password twice. To make it not ask you for a password you should copy you ssh key to your remote computer. And make poweroff and reboot command accessible by non root user.

Remote Lock Screen and Remote Unlock Screen on Linux (Ubuntu)

After my several post about Lock Screen on Linux (Ubuntu) from Command Line, Lock Screen on Linux (Ubuntu) from First Boot, and Run or Execute Multiple Command on SSH, now I will continue with Remote Lock Screen and Remote Unlock Screen on Linux (Ubuntu).

Sometimes we need to lock a computer from different location to keep it save from abuse. But we need to lock the remote computer's screen just in one command.

To do this you need openssh-server installed on your remote computer and ssh-client installed on your computer. If you using Ubuntu, you will have this ssh-client on you Ubuntu default install.

In this post I am using ubuntu both on remote computer and my computer. To lock the screen simply type this command on terminal :

$ ssh -X user@server "export DISPLAY=:0; gnome-screensaver; gnome-screensaver-command -l;"

You may use that command without "-X" option if you have X forwarding enabled (ForwardX11 yes) on your ssh configuration. But you need to remember with "export DISPLAY=:0", without this the command will give the lock screen on your computer, not your remote computer.

To unlock the screen on your remote computer, type this command on your computer :

$ ssh -X user@server "export DISPLAY=:0; gnome-screensaver; gnome-screensaver-command -d;"

Now, with this two command you can lock and unlock your remote computer with just one ssh command.

Run or Execute Multiple Command on SSH

Sometime you need to run a command or two command or many command on one ssh connection and then exit immediately. To run one command you just need to add the command behind the ssh command, like this :

$ ssh user@remote_computer command

example :

$ ssh john@192.168.1.100 ls -l

that command will execute "ls -l" on remote computer (192.168.1.100) and display the result on your computer.

But, you may have a question how to run multiple command on ssh. To do that you need to add double quotes at the beginning and the end of your command. Separate every your command with semicolon. Like this :

$ ssh user@remote_computer "command1; command2; command3;"

example :

$ ssh john@192.168.1.100 "ls; ls /etc;"

With that command you can execute many command with one ssh connection.

Lock Screen on Linux (Ubuntu) from First Boot

After my previous post Lock Screen on Linux (Ubuntu) from Command Line, I will continue about lock the screen on the first time your computer boot. On this post, I am only explain lock screen on Ubuntu.

To lock your Ubuntu screen you need to make a script, I will call the script with "lockfirstboot". Make the file,

$ vi lockfirstboot

the file would be like this :

#!/bin/bash

gnome-screensaver

sleep 2

gnome-screensaver-command -l

Then save the file. Don't forget to place that file under /etc/init.d/ to make this script run on startup.

After you place that script under /etc/init.d/, make that file executable. Do this command :

$ chmod +x lockfirstboot

Well done, now your computer will automatically lock the screen after booting.

Note : give a sleep after command "gnome-screensaver" give your system time and make all command executed gracefully.

Lock Screen on Linux (Ubuntu) from Command Line

Maybe some people want to lock their screen for some reason. And they want to do this with command line or script. To lock the screen on ubuntu, the command you need to run would be like this.

First you have to make sure that the screen saver is running. the command is :

$ gnome-screensaver

Then to lock the screen, you need to run this command :

$ gnome-screensaver-command -l

Those command will make your screen locked.

Setting Socks Proxy on Firefox

Maybe you have question about how to setting firefox to use a socks proxy. If you used to use http proxy, then setting socks proxy is not so different. This post will guide you.

For Firefox Linux :
Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Settings

For Windows :
Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Settings

Then choose "Manual proxy configuration" and fill only the "SOCKS Host" and let the other empty. Fill the SOCKS Host with your socks proxy server and port. Choose what socks you are using, socks 4 or socks 5. This picture is using socks 5 proxy.

Sometimes you need to hide your IP. And sometimes your network forbid you to acces several sites. If you have a problem like that, then you need proxy to connect to the internet. This is the list of several proxy I provide to help you give what you need.

The World is Run Out of IPv4

As you know that new Operating System like Windows Vista, Windows 7, Ubuntu 9.10 provide both IP addressing IPv4 and IPv6. This is because IPv4 will run out of number and we will change to IPv6.

IPv4 is 32-bit addressing system that provide 4 billion, and IPv6 is a 128-bit addressing system that provide a lot more number of IP that IPv4. This would provide enough number of IP addressing for all people in the world.

But the problem is to change all IP addessing system in the world is not easy and fast like you are thinking. It would take a lot of time. Another prblem is that old hardware and software that doesn't support IPv4 addressing system will cannot be use anymore on the network. Hardware like router, modem, will need firmware upgrade that support IPv6. The other problem is that unlike the IPv4, IPv6 would difficult to remember.

As many expert says, the migration from IPv4 so IPv6 is not more than 2 years from now. So If you plan to buy hardware of software, you better to choose which support with IPv6.

Run SSH from PHP with Browser, not with Command Line (CLI)

This was my question how to run ssh from php on my Ubuntu. Many people know that to run Linux command from php is by using function like exec(), shell_exec(), system(), passtrhu(), etc. Everything seems very easy to do. Maybe you can run almost all Linux command with php. You could run ssh too with php CLI. But you maybe stuck why you can not run ssh from php with your browser.

Command like ls, ping, and all internal command was run well both on php CLI and browser, but not with ssh. This is because the user name who run php is different between the terminal and the browser.

On terminal you got result your login name, and on browser you will get user "nobody" (when you using Lampp like me). This is because that the default, apache using user nobody.

To make ssh work on your code, you need to change the user nobody with your user name. To do it, open the httpd.conf file, and find this :

User nobody
Group noody

Then changes it with your user name and group. And thats will do it. But you need to remember about the security when do this. Hope this help everyone who has problem with ssh and php.

Install Yahoo Messenger 10 on Ubuntu 9.10

After my previous post Install Office 2007 and Dreamweaver on Ubuntu 9.10, I continue using this new version of wine to install Yahoo Messenger. I am using Yahoo Messenger 10. Just type on the terminal like other application I installed on my previous post.

$ wine /path/to/yahoo messenger installer

This application cannot run 100% smooth on Linux, but it can do its job helping me to chat with my friend even I'm using Ubuntu.

The new version of wine is very good and run well on my laptop till now. You can try it yourself. Next, I will install other program with wine again. Its maybe Dota.

Hope this help to solve your problem who use old version of wine.

Speed Up Your Computer and Fix Your Slow Computer

Is your computer become slower from time to time? Is your computer not same as the time you do the fresh install? Maybe its time to fix it. There are several reason that your computer becoming slow and the way to fix it :

Virus and trojan alway causing your computer running slow. So use a good antivirus to prevent and to clean your computer from viruses.
Some application sometimes getting crash when running together. So check it from the task manager which one that use big amount of your memory. And try to not run them together.
Too many desktop icon and files on your desktop can slow down your computer. It causing your computer take longer time to load. So delete your unnecessary icons and move your files that on your desktop to other place on your hard drive.
Low virtual memory can make your computer slow too. Virtual memory is a space from your hard drive that is taken by the operating system and use it as RAM. So increase your virtual memory.
Too many start up program. You should choose necessary program to run at start up.
Registry problem. Use a registry cleaner program to fix it.
Your operating system keep many temporary files. You need to clean it regularly and your temporary internet file too.
You need to defrag your drive regularly, so your file are well indexed.
Low disk space. Give a little free space to your drive, don't let your drive getting so full. Delete unimportant files that you don't really need anymore.

That is the tips. After you do the tips above, check if your computer run faaster.

Proxy Make You Anonymous But Still Dangerous

One of the reason that proxy created is to make someone become anonymous to surf to the internet. There are several reason people going anonymous.

They get a proxy server by using free open proxy or use proxy that paid, usually elite proxy. There are several type of proxy that you should know. You better to choose the right one if you wanna use a proxy to do something on internet.

This is four type of proxy :
1. Transparent proxy
    This kind proxy can be detected and does not hide your IP at all.
2. Anonymous proxy
    This proxy detected as a proxy but hide you original IP.
3. Distorting proxy
    This proxy detected as a proxy but give the wrong IP, so your IP
    detected as another IP.
4. High anonymous proxy
    This proxy cannot detected as a proxy and hide your original IP
    address. This proxy also known as elite proxy.

Remember to notice that when you use a proxy server, all data that you send and receive can be sniffed or stolen by the proxy server. This is very important for you to always remember. Just be sure when using a proxy about your privacy and your important data.

And one more think to notice is that you has to make sure you use a legal proxy or open proxy. Using illegal proxy are not permitted.

Xampp Linux 1.7.2 (Lampp 1.7.2) Error, Lampp 1.7.1 Stable

Many people like to use Xampp for their web server because its very easy to use. But when people hope the best application from the last version (1.7.2), they get error when use it. The error is like "deprecated function eregi bla bla bla".

I was looking the way to fix this error. But I still cannot find it. So I think maybe the previous version is more stable, and has not the same error. So I remove this Lampp 1.7.2 from my ubuntu. And then I install Xampp Linux (Lampp) 1.7.1 on my computer. And this can fix the problem.

But now, there is the newest version of Xampp, that is Xampp 1.7.3. This version release 7 day ago. Hope this version has more feature and better than the previous version which is has error .

Yahoo Messenger for Linux

Every people know Yahoo Messenger. Many of them use this application to chat through yahoo network. This program not only for chat with text but has complete feature like voice call, web cam, etc. People who use Linux or people who migrates from Windows to Linux always looking for application that has same feature with Yahoo Messenger. There is an messenger application on Linux that has almost feature that Yahoo Messenger has.

This application is Gyachi. Unlike pidgin, this software can only run on Yahoo network. Pidgin doesn't have feature like voice call or web cam like Yahoo Messenger, but Gyachi does. I was using Pidgin, but then I felt uncomfortable when I cannot find web cam feature on this application. And then I find this application.

The web cam is good, has the same quality with Yahoo Messenger I think. And one more feature is that you can see your invisible friends. You don't need to go to site vizgin just to see your invisible friends anymore.

Ubuntu 9.10 Solve BenQ R46 Wireless Problem

I was using Ubuntu 9.04 on my BenQ R46 laptop. And I have a problem that is very annoying. Its the wireless problem. My wireless cannot be used at all. I'm trying to use madwifi and ndiswrapper, but still cannot solved my problem.

Then I try karmic on live CD without installed it. And my wireless working well. Then I installed Ubuntu (9.10) Karmic and my laptop. There are no problem anymore. I can use my wireless without any problem.

And I think this is because the module for the hardware not included on Jaunty. But its updated on Karmic.

Install Office 2007 and Dreamweaver on Ubuntu 9.10

I need to install Office 2007 and Dreamweaver on my ubuntu. To install both two program I need to use wine. There are problems during the installation of Office 2007 and Dreamweaver on previus version of wine. But with the new version of wine I found no error during the installation. And both of them run well on my laptop.

I use wine-1.1.31 on my laptop. You can get it from Ubuntu Repo. Run this on terminal :

$ sudo apt-get install wine1.2

After wine have installed on your computer. Install Office and Dreamweaver.

install office : (run on terminal)

$ wine /path/to/office 2007 installer

intall dreamweaver : (run on terminal)

$ wine /path/to/dreamweaver installer

The new version of wine is very good and run well on my laptop till now. You can try it yourself. Next, I will install other program with wine again. Its maybe Dota.

Did you know that Ubuntu use 3D effects that called compiz? Compiz is able to produce a good 3D effects.

But these applications sometimes do not get along with Linux games, one of them is the famous game Assault Cube. Compiz often make the game crash. For example, if you do not turn off compiz when playing games Assault Cube, then the game will crash (the game will stop) several minutes later.

Therefore compiz needs to shut down when playing games. Do with this:
1. Open terminal
2. Type the command:
$ metacity --replace

Then compiz will die. If you do not want to bother with opening a terminal and want to turn off compiz with just one click you need to install an application called compiz-switch.
