When you connecting to internet by your modem with wvdial sometimes you find that you cannot connect to internet, and there are errror message on the wvdial. The error message is no carrier or invalid dial command. And the answer is simple.
Here I will show you how to solve this problem. I finally found the way to connect to internet with the same program and the same modem. To solve the problem you need to make sure your modem plugged on /dev/ttyUSB0 (I use ubuntu). The message no carrier and invalid dial command show when the modem on /dev/ttyUSB1 or /dev/ttyUSB2 or anything else besides /dev/ttyUSB0.
Then to solve this problem, all you need to do is to plug your modem on /dev/ttyUSB0. And that's it.

Sounds promising! I have the exact problems you mention above, and my modem is indeed on /dev/ttyUSB1.
Any advices for a linux modem newbie on how to accomplish the switch to /dev/ttyUSB0?
Regards,
Pati
Maybe you need to unplug your modem and the plug it again on different USB port until you got /dev/ttyUSB0. Hope this help.
